Jurgen Klopp expressed his concern over Liverpool’s mounting injury woes and the challenging fixture schedule after the Reds struggled to a goalless draw against Manchester United at Anfield. The frustration was compounded as midfielder Ryan Gravenberch succumbed to a hamstring injury during the match, adding to the growing list of sidelined players.
Gravenberch, who had been a standout performer, was forced off in the second half, further depleting Liverpool’s midfield options. Klopp acknowledged the severity of the situation, stating, “We hoped it would go by, [but] it didn’t. There was this really intense sprint with the ball which ended on the 18-yard line with a collision.”
The injury comes at a time when Liverpool is already grappling with the absence of key players, including Alexis Mac Allister, Thiago Alcantara, and Stefan Bajcetic. Klopp revealed the uncertainty surrounding Gravenberch’s availability for the upcoming fixtures, saying, “I hope it is not that serious, but we have in the next 10 days three more games, so I don’t know if he will be part of them or one of them.”
The Reds face West Ham in the Carabao Cup quarter-final on Wednesday, followed by a crucial Premier League clash with Arsenal, who moved ahead of Liverpool in the table. Klopp acknowledged the demanding schedule, describing it as “horrendous” and emphasized the need to navigate through this period with as many players fit as possible.
“It’s a tough period. We play Wednesday against West Ham, then we have Arsenal and Burnley. It’s horrendous. We have to make sure we get enough points in this period, but then there’s a lot of football to play after that too. It’s important we get through this with as many players as possible,” said Klopp, highlighting the significance of managing the squad’s fitness during this challenging stretch.
