Brandon Jennings Suggests Kevin Durant Should Leave Struggling Suns
The Phoenix Suns, despite their elite offensive talent, have faced a challenging stretch, losing five of their last six matches and currently enduring a three-game losing streak. The recent Christmas Day defeat against the Dallas Mavericks has intensified scrutiny on the team’s defensive struggles, leading former NBA guard Brandon Jennings to voice his opinion on social media.
Jennings took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his belief that Kevin Durant should consider leaving the Suns, stating, “KD should leave SUNS. They cursed man. He don’t deserve this.”
Durant joined the Suns around the 2023 trade deadline, and this summer, the front office made significant moves to assemble a championship-caliber roster around him. The acquisition of Bradley Beal via trade and other rotational additions, including Jusuf Nurkic, aimed to complement the offensive firepower of Durant and Devin Booker.
However, Beal has dealt with injury struggles early in the season, impacting the team’s performance. Without Beal on the court, the Suns have faced challenges, and their defensive issues have been exposed by opposing teams.
Durant, despite his individual excellence, has had to bear the burden of the team’s performance. The 35-year-old forward is averaging 30.3 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 5.5 assists, with impressive shooting percentages of 51.8% from the field and 46.9% from three-point range in 25 games.
While Durant is likely waiting for Beal’s return in the hope of an improvement in the team’s fortunes, Jennings suggests that Durant might be better off leaving the Suns. However, it’s improbable that Durant would seek to leave the team so soon after joining, especially given the significant moves made by the front office to build a competitive roster around him.
With a long season ahead and the potential return of Beal, Durant’s commitment to the Suns is expected to remain steadfast. The ups and downs of the regular season are part of the game, and Durant’s experience suggests that he understands these fluctuations. While Jennings’ suggestion may not be in the cards in the near term, the situation could evolve if the team’s struggles persist throughout the season.
