Liverpool standout Mohamed Salah faces potential scrutiny from Muslim fans after sharing a picture of a Christmas tree

Muslim supporters criticize Mohamed Salah for sharing a Christmas tree photo on social media. Salah tweeted a Christmas tree shot and captioned it with a message addressing the Israel-Palestine conflict before wishing his followers a ‘Merry Christmas.’ While not all Muslims celebrate Christmas, some do.

Fans had previously criticized Salah on social media last year for posting a photo in identical pajamas with his wife Magi and children Makka and Kaya in front of a Christmas tree.

His traditional Christmas message has once again drawn criticism from Muslim fans.

Salah in his post mentioned the ongoing conflict involving Israel and Palestine before wishing his followers a Merry Christmas

Salah addressed the Israel-Palestine issue before extending Christmas greetings to his fans. One supporter labeled Salah as ’embarrassing to the Muslim world,’ while another expressed disappointment, stating, “This is so uncouth Salah; you are Muslim, not Christmas.” Another fan said, “Our Christmas is April—shame on you, brother.”

A supposed Arsenal fan wrote, “Mo Salah, I liked you as an Arsenal fan. You were a great player and encouraged me. However, this tweet disqualifies you as my role model. You disappointed me. Please remove this tweet, or I’ll unfollow you.”

“As Muslims, we shouldn’t judge and support Mo. But everyone loves judging Salah over Christmas. Maybe we’re all flawed. Free Palestine,” tweeted another.

Yet another tweet expressed support, stating, “This is a beautiful message and a lesson to think about innocent people. Much love, Mo.”

Despite the Christmas tree photo, Salah wrote, “Christmas is a time for families to enjoy. With the cruel conflict in the Middle East, particularly the murder and devastation in Gaza, we approach Christmas with sad hearts and feel the anguish of those families who have lost loved ones.”

Muslims don't traditionally celebrate Christmas but some do partake in the festivities that take place during the Christian holiday

Please remember them and don’t accept their pain. Merry Christmas.

Football has made Salah one of the world’s top Muslim sports heroes.

After talk of a transfer to Saudi Arabia this summer, he has been in great form for Liverpool this season. He has scored 16 goals and provided 8 assists in 25 appearances across all competitions.

After their New Year’s Day match with Newcastle, he may miss a month for the Africa Cup of Nations with Egypt.
