Liverpool Reportedly Reigniting Interest in Inter’s Nicolo Barella
Liverpool is reportedly set to revive their interest in Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella, according to a report from L’Interista. Despite previous attempts to secure the Italian international’s services, Liverpool is said to be back in contention for Barella, who has been a key player for Inter Milan, contributing to their recent successes.
Barella, who joined Inter from Cagliari, has enjoyed significant achievements, including winning the Scudetto, Coppa Italia, and reaching the Champions League final last season. The Reds face competition from Chelsea and Newcastle, both expressing interest in acquiring the talented midfielder.
Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool’s manager, is known to be an admirer of Barella, and the club’s renewed interest aligns with previous reports indicating Klopp’s efforts to secure a deal for the Italian midfielder. Negotiations for a contract renewal between Inter Milan and Barella are reportedly ongoing, with the player’s current contract set to expire in June 2026. Inter, while not in a hurry to extend the contract, could face the risk of losing Barella if a substantial offer is presented.
Liverpool has recently experienced challenges in securing primary midfield targets, such as Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, who opted to join Chelsea instead. Despite these setbacks, Liverpool’s midfield remains a focal point in the Premier League, with the team leading the standings.
While the potential addition of Barella could strengthen Liverpool’s midfield further, the report suggests that the primary focus in the January transfer window should be on acquiring a new central defender, especially with Joel Matip sidelined due to injury. Additionally, the Reds may consider bolstering their options in other positions, including left-back, to enhance the squad’s depth and competitiveness.
