On Wednesday, Liverpool moved one step closer to their first season final. In the first leg of the League Cup semi-final, they defeated Fulham 2-1 at Anfield. After Willian opened the score for Fulham, the Reds attempted a comeback. Curtis Jones equalized in the second half. Cody Gakpo scored the game-winning goal three minutes later.

“It’s the mentality in the group, in the club, in the city,” Gakpo remarked of their victory. Everyone has this mentality: simply keep going no matter what. It was shown again today. A lot of amazing things can happen if you have that mindset.”

They have two weeks to prepare for their vacation to Craven Cottage in the south. The good news is that the Reds will have a much-needed vacation until January 21st to recover and rejuvenate before continuing their drive.

“I love to play with the guys,” Gakpo continued, echoing the sentiments of numerous of his teammates. “We demonstrated a really good mentality, and we must keep going because this is only the first leg of the game.” We must persevere.”

Injury, tiredness, and the colder weather all add to a difficult few months for teams during this time of year. Depending on how far Egypt and Japan advance in their respective competitions, Mohamed Salah and Wataru Endo might miss up to six games. Despite this, Liverpool appear to be finding their stride.
