Bayern Munich have completed the signing of Tottenham defender Eric Dier on loan. Recently, the reason why the Bundesliga champion chose the English defender was revealed.
The English star’s contract with Tottenham will expire this summer and head coach Ange Postecoglou has decided that Eric Dier will have to leave the team.
Bayern will have to pay a fee of between 2 and 4 million euros , depending on the level of Dier’s contribution. In return, they will receive this player in the form of an official transfer.
The Bavarian Gray Tigers were once interested in Genoa defender Radu Dragusin, but the midfielder refused to move to Munich and chose to join Tottenham, forcing the Bundesliga team to look for other targets.
Football journalist Andy Brassell on The Transfer Show spoke about Dier’s move to Bayern and why the German giants chose him: “Eric Dier’s transfer is a bit like Davinson Sanchez. He hasn’t had the best of times over the past year and a half at Spurs, but Galatasaray are very pleased with Sanchez so far. He may also appear in the Champions League.”
“Dier is exactly what Bayern were looking for. They cannot pick up Joao Palhinha because it would be a very difficult deal to do in January. Dier can play as a defensive midfielder, can also play as a central defender and has many chances of success.”
“I think he is exactly what they are after and perhaps this transfer could even get him back into the England team,” Brassell commented.
Tottenham has been active in this month’s transfer window, completing the recruitment of Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin. Spurs are expected to sign a midfielder this January.
