‘Messi, Alba, Busquets and I dream of retiring there’ – Luis Suarez opens up about his time with Barcelona

Another Barcelona legend, Luis Suarez, has signed with the Major League Soccer club Inter Miami, following in the footsteps of Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba.

The Uruguayan striker, who departed the Blaugrana in 2020, has transferred to the Florida-based club from the Brazilian club Gremio. In doing so, he has reunited with his closest friends and former teammates from Barcelona.

Suarez addressed a press conference today after completing his first training session with Inter Miami. During the press conference, he discussed the reunion with his former teammates from Barcelona.

“I didn’t think I was going to play with Leo again because I think he was going to finish his career at Barcelona,” stated Suarez. “I thought he was going to finish his career at Barcelona.”

It was confirmed by the Uruguayan legend that the presence of Messi and his other former teammates was one of the reasons that he decided to join to Inter Miami. He stated:

Another reason why I am here is because of this. We are driven by ambition, and we want to demonstrate to the younger generation that age is irrelevant; what is the most important thing is the will to win.

While they were talking, Suarez expressed his disappointment that the four of them had the same desire to retire with Barcelona, but that it was not to be.

“In 2018, the four of us dreamed of retiring there, although I was the first to leave and then they came after me,” the striker disclosed. “We had a dream of getting away from there.”

Following that, Suarez went on to affirm that all of them would be present to see the final of the Spanish Super Cup tomorrow, which will feature Barcelona competing against Real Madrid.

“There will never be a day when Barcelona is not present in our hearts. We are going to be sure to watch the championship game, and we would want to extend our best wishes to the club.

He continued by saying, “The current situation shows that they are a good team, but perhaps they are not performing as well as expected in La Liga.” He was commenting on the predicament that the club is in under Xavi. Tomorrow is more essential than anything else since it will allow us to win a title and boost our confidence.
