Barcelona’s Past Pursuit: Real Betis’ 22-Year-Old Winger Who Caught Their Attention in 2022

Barcelona will begin the second half of their 2023–24 La Liga season by traveling to Seville tomorrow, where they will play Real Betis at the Benito Villamarin. This match will mark the beginning of the second half of the season.

Heading into the game, Barça will have some edge, knowing that their opponents are scheduled to be without as many as 12 players for the match due to injuries and international obligations.

During the game, Barcelona will have the opportunity to face off against some of their former players, such as Hector Bellerin and Sergi Altimira. On the other hand, Chadi Riad, Ez Abde, and Marc Bartra will not be participating.

Luiz Henrique, a winger who was also on the club’s radar in the past, will also be there when Barcelona takes on Luiz Henrique. This will be another familiar face for Barcelona.

Luiz Henrique was a player that Barcelona was intrigued by.

In point of fact, Joaquim Piera of SPORT reported that Barcelona had expressed interest in acquiring Luiz Henrique during the summer transfer window of 2022.

Due to his speed, strength, and technical ability, the Brazilian winger, who was 22 years old at the time, had gained the attention of the Blaugrana. He was playing for Fluminense in his home country at the time.

According to the article, Barca had very positive remarks to say about the young forward, who had already made more than one hundred appearances for Fluminense by that point in time.

Nevertheless, in the end, with the economic levers being activated, the Catalan giants ended up selecting for a more experienced and proven player in Europe in the form of Raphinha, who arrived from Leeds United in a transaction of €58 million. Raphinha was acquired from Leeds United.

However, Henrique was able to make the transfer to Europe since Real Betis purchased him during the same summer for a mere eight million euros. In Europe, however, things have not gone according to plan for the 22-year-old player, as he has been unable to establish himself and carve out a place for himself in Manuel Pellegrini’s organization.

As a result, it is believed that Henrique is currently in the process of returning to Brazil during the current window, and Flamengo is currently in negotiations to sign him. And as luck would have it, his last game for Betis might end up being against Barcelona, the team that he had previously been interested in playing for.
