Cristiano Ronaldo Clinches 2023 Globe Soccer Maradona Award for Best Goalscorer
In a stunning accolade, Al-Nassr captain Cristiano Ronaldo, 38, has added another impressive title to his illustrious career by winning the 2023 Globe Soccer Maradona Award for the Best Goalscorer. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner showcased a remarkable performance throughout the year, netting an impressive 54 goals in 59 games across various competitions.
Ronaldo’s goal-scoring prowess included 44 goals in 50 appearances for Al-Nassr and an additional 10 goals in nine matches for Portugal during their successful UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying campaign. The Portuguese forward finished two goals ahead of notable contenders such as Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane and PSG’s Kylian Mbappe, both of whom concluded the year with 50 goals each. Manchester City’s Erling Haaland also reached the 50-goal milestone in 2023.
The veteran striker, defying age, claimed the prestigious honor at an extravagant award ceremony held in Dubai on Friday (January 19). The official Globe Soccer Awards Twitter account congratulated Ronaldo, stating: “Congratulations to CRISTIANO RONALDO on winning the 2023 Globe Soccer’s MARADONA AWARD for Best Goalscorer.”
Currently on a midseason break, Ronaldo is set to resume action with Al-Nassr in four upcoming friendlies before the season recommences next month.
In another update, Ronaldo, despite being absent from the UEFA Champions League for nearly two years, remains attuned to the competition. The competition’s all-time top scorer, with 140 goals, named Manchester City as a strong contender to secure victory this season. Ronaldo, a five-time Champions League winner, cheekily added, “I hope not (they don’t win), but I think they have a chance.” Real Madrid, his former club, is also among the formidable contenders for this season’s title.
