Cristiano Ronaldo criticised for disparaging Ligue 1
During the Globe Soccer Awards ceremony, Cristiano Ronaldo insisted that the Saudi Pro League is now more competitive than Ligue 1. However, these comments made former France international Laure Boulleau feel unhappy. She has criticized Ronaldo, claiming that the Portuguese star has too big an ego.
“I was surprised with his comment. Why criticize Ligue 1? Because Lionel Messi used to play here? I asked myself why he mentioned Ligue 1 and not other leagues. I think Ronaldo shouldn’t say that. He’s played in a lot of leagues, except this one, so it’s lame. This is not the league he knows best.
Quite frankly, if you watch Saudi Pro League games then you’ll know that’s not true. I think that’s just a way of saying, about pride. Ronaldo has a big ego. But that doesn’t stop me from liking Cristiano Ronaldo a lot. I don’t like such statements at all, though.”
Ronaldo has left Europe for the first time in his career to play in the Saudi Pro League in 2023. The Portuguese striker has had an impressive year in the Middle East. He is the world’s highest scoring male footballer with 54 goals for club and country. Ronaldo’s presence also helps increase the prestige of the Saudi Pro League and attract many other stars in Europe to play here.
