Klopp Confirms Salah’s Return to AFCON if Egypt Reaches Final
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has affirmed that Mohamed Salah will rejoin the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) if Egypt advances to the final. Salah, who sustained a hamstring injury during Egypt’s recent match against Ghana, returned to England for treatment, aiming for a swift recovery.
Liverpool’s assistant manager, Pepijn Lijnders, suggested that Salah could return to action in three to four weeks, provided there are no setbacks in his rehabilitation. The AFCON final is scheduled for February 11.
Klopp addressed the situation, emphasizing the shared interest between Egypt and Liverpool in ensuring Salah’s prompt recovery. He stated, “Egypt and Liverpool both have the same interest, we want Mo Salah fit as soon as possible.” Klopp clarified that Salah’s return to England was not to distance him from Egypt but to facilitate the best possible medical treatment.
The agreement is clear: if Salah is fit and Egypt advances to the final, he will return to the national team. Klopp highlighted Salah’s desire for this arrangement, and Liverpool supports the decision.
Egypt, with seven AFCON titles, finished second in Group B, setting up a last-16 clash with the Democratic Republic of Congo. Klopp also defended Salah against criticism for returning to Merseyside, asserting the player’s loyalty and commitment.
The focus remains on Salah’s recovery, aligning the interests of Liverpool and Egypt for the star winger’s optimal return to action.
