Following his transfer from AFC Ajax to Barcelona in the summer of 2019, Frenkie de Jong is currently on the verge of finishing his fifth year with the club.
While there has never been a single shred of question about the Dutchman’s quality, there is a feeling that he has not consistently touched his finest levels for Barca over a significant portion of his time at the club. This is despite the fact that there has never been a single doubt about his skill.
Over the course of the previous 18 to 20 months, however, things have significantly improved for De Jong. He has gone on to become one of the captains of the team and a “untouchable” after coming dangerously close to being sent out of the club in the summer of 2022.
La Liga is interested in re-signing De Jong.
Currently, it has been reported by SPORT that Deco, the sporting director of Barcelona, is willing to grant De Jong a new contract contract.
The present contract that the 26-year-old midfielder has with the Blaugrana is set to expire in the summer of 2026, which indicates that he still has more than two years left on his term.
Despite this, the squad that won the La Liga championship last year is keen to grant him a new contract and secure his future with the club. This makes perfect sense when one considers how vital he is to the team.
As a consequence of this, Deco plans to initiate discussions with De Jong and his agency on the possibility of a new contract. At this moment, however, it is anticipated that there will be little progress made in the renewal talks until the summer.

Adhering to the words
When Barcelona experienced a string of poor performances and results, De Jong was one of the players who voiced their displeasure and demanded that the team make improvements in order to finish the season on a good note.
And up to this point, he has been putting his words into action, as evidenced by his performance against Deportivo Alaves last night, against whom Barcelona ultimately prevailed by a score of 3-1.
With Andreas Christensen serving as the pivot, the Dutchman, whose current market value is estimated to be 80 million euros, put on a fantastic performance. This was made possible by the fact that he was relieved of some of the defensive responsibilities that he had been responsible for.
Even if Manchester United continues to be a fan of De Jong, it is possible that he will sign a new deal with Barcelona in the near future. However, it is not anticipated that there will be any rapid progress on this front.
