Liverpool’s 4-1 victory over Brentford in the Premier League showcased their assertive performance, with Cody Gakpo sealing the win with a goal minutes before full time.
The victory solidified Liverpool’s position at the top of the Premier League table, but injuries to key players Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota have raised concerns about squad depth for the remainder of the season.
“I think we have to keep the feeling what we have at the moment and just build on that”, said Gakpo.
Speaking after the match, Gakpo emphasized the importance of maintaining the positive momentum and focus heading into upcoming crucial fixtures. With midweek and weekend games on the horizon, Liverpool faces a series of important matches, and Gakpo stressed the need for the entire squad to stay focused and fit to meet the challenges ahead.
“Obviously in midweek we have another really important game and then the weekend is also another really important one. I think only important games will come up now. We need everybody and we have to stay focused and fit”.
Despite the injuries suffered during the game, Gakpo praised the team’s performance and mentality, highlighting their resilience and determination on the field. However, he acknowledged the setbacks caused by the injuries and expressed hope for the quick recovery of Jones and Jota, as their fitness will be crucial for Liverpool’s success in the busy schedule ahead.
“Obviously it was a day with everything in it. I think [it was] a very good performance from the team. We really showed the good mentality we needed in this game but a few injuries, which is not good for us”, said Gakpo.
As Liverpool navigates through a challenging period of the season, maintaining squad fitness and morale will be essential for their pursuit of success in both domestic and European competitions. The Reds will rely on the collective effort of their players to overcome obstacles and continue their strong campaign in pursuit of silverware.
