As Liverpool braces for another pivotal week of fixtures, Cody Gakpo aims to sustain the team’s momentum following a resounding 4-1 victory against Brentford, which further solidified their position atop the Premier League standings.
With Luton Town set to visit Anfield midweek followed by a high-stakes Carabao Cup final against Chelsea at Wembley next weekend, Gakpo emphasizes the importance of maintaining the positive momentum garnered from their recent triumph.
“I think we have to keep the feeling what we have at the moment and just build on that,” Gakpo told Liverpoolfc.com after the victory at Gtech Community Stadium.
“Obviously in midweek we have another really important game and then the weekend is also another really important one. I think only important games will come up now. We need everybody and we have to stay focused and fit.”
Reflecting on the win at Brentford, where Gakpo made a significant impact by scoring Liverpool’s fourth goal, the midfielder highlights the team’s collective effort and mentality, despite facing adversity with injuries.
Acknowledging the upcoming challenges, Gakpo stresses the need for everyone to remain focused and fit as Liverpool navigates through a string of crucial fixtures. With a packed schedule ahead, every game holds immense significance, requiring the full commitment and contribution of the entire squad.
As Liverpool continues to assert their dominance in the Premier League, Gakpo emphasizes the importance of capitalizing on opportunities and effectively managing games to secure vital victories. Despite facing formidable opponents, the team remains determined to uphold their winning form and achieve their season objectives.
With determination and resilience, Liverpool aims to build on their recent success and emerge victorious in the challenges that lie ahead, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to excellence on the pitch.
“We really showed the good mentality we needed in this game but a few injuries, which is not good for us.
“Obviously a lot of games are coming up and we need everybody to be as fit as possible, so hopefully it will be alright but I don’t know yet what’s up with the boys.
“We did a lot of good things in the first half but they had a few chances. I think in the second half we just kept going and used our chances to kind of try to kill the game, and at the end we did it.”
