A pair of significant injuries were inflicted upon Barcelona last night, with both Pedri and Frenkie de Jong receiving knocks that appeared to be rather serious.
Pedri’s injury, in particular, appeared to be very severe, and all indications point to the possibility that he may be out for a considerable amount of time, possibly for as long as five to six weeks.
Barcelona, who had hoped to launch a late battle for the league crown, has been dealt a devastating blow by the absence of Pedri and de Jong, who are both vital players in the team.
The record that Barcelona has achieved this season sans Pedri and de Jong
Let’s take a moment, however, to take a look at Barcelona’s statistics from this season, particularly during the times when the squad was playing without both de Jong and Pedri in the starting eleven.
Both Pedri and de Jong have not been a part of the Barcelona team in any of the eight matches that they have participated in by the club. They have not only been able to hold their own in those eight matches, but they have also enjoyed a streak of spectacular performances throughout the course of those contests.
Although they have only lost one of the eight matches, Barcelona has won five of them, drawn two of them, and only lost one. Estadio Montjuic was the location of the sole loss, which occurred against Real Madrid.

Barcelona’s rather supreme record without Pedri and de Jong signifies that the club do have other options and are not completely naked in midfield with these two.
While there is no doubt that these two individuals had a supreme impact on Barcelona’s game and style of play, the results have been quite the same even without them.
However, the scenario is a tad bit different this time around. Unlike the first half of the campaign, Xavi is also missing another young starlet Gavi, which further minimises the midfield options for the Barcelona coach.
At the same time, injuries to Pedri and de Jong should serve as an opportunity for others to step up to the plate and prove themselves, including bright young stars such as Fermin Lopez and Marc Casado, among others.
