Liverpool Suffers Setback as Andy Robertson Picks Up Ankle Injury
Liverpool’s left-back Andy Robertson faced a setback during Scotland’s friendly against Northern Ireland at Hampden Park on Tuesday night, as he was forced off the pitch due to an ankle injury sustained in the first half.
Reportedly, the injury occurred following a challenge from Northern Ireland’s Trai Hume, leaving Robertson clutching his ankle in discomfort after 30 minutes of play, according to the Daily Mail.
This unfortunate incident marks the second time this season that the 30-year-old Liverpool star has been injured while on international duty, having previously injured his arm in a collision with Spain goalkeeper Unai Simon during a Euro 2024 qualifier last October.
The potential absence of Robertson for an extended period would undoubtedly be a blow for Liverpool, although the club managed in his absence previously this season.
Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool’s manager, will be keen to have all his senior players available for the crucial remaining fixtures of the season, as the Reds remain in contention for both the Premier League and Europa League titles. However, the club has been plagued by injuries throughout the campaign.
During Robertson’s previous absence, Joe Gomez deputized at left-back and delivered commendable performances. It’s likely that Klopp may turn to the versatile defender once again if Robertson faces a prolonged spell on the sidelines.
Liverpool will be anxiously awaiting further updates on Robertson’s ankle injury, hoping that it does not turn out to be a significant setback for the remainder of the season.
