Memphis Depay was revealed to have paid a 1 million euro bail to the Barcelona court to help Dani Alves bail.
El Futbolero revealed that Atletico Madrid striker Depay was the one who helped his former teammate cover legal costs. Depay and Alves worked side by side with Barca in the 2021/22 season.
Previously, there was news that Neymar’s father paid 1 million euros to help Alves bail, but Mr. Neymar Sr immediately issued a message denying it on his personal page. Alves’ lawyer, Ines Guardiola, shared with AS that his client did not have enough money in his account to pay 1 million euros in bail.
Alves has two bank accounts in Spain: one of them has no money and the other has 51,000 euros. The player still has money in Brazil, but his bank accounts here were frozen by the court, after a lawsuit with his ex-wife Dinorah Santana over child support last year.
It is likely that Depay lent money to his former teammates so that he could temporarily escape the period behind prison bars. In the future, Alves can also receive a tax refund of up to 9.2 million euros from the Spanish government.
Last week, Depay also spoke up to confirm that Alves is always his friend. “Promes, Benjamin Mendy and Dani Alves got into trouble with the law, but that doesn’t meаn they are no longer my friends,” the Atletico star said during a gathering with the Dutch team.
Depay’s move with Alves is controversial. Many La Liga fans even asked Atletico to take action to punish Depay, if the striker really helped a convicted man like Alves.
“I can’t believe that a football star, a national player like Depay would publicly support and help a rаpist,” commented a fan named Lewis.
