Gakpo Praises Liverpool’s Squad Depth Amid Premier League Title Push

Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo has highlighted the depth of their squad as a crucial factor in the club’s bid for the Premier League title. 

Coming off the bench for the 19th time this season, Gakpo scored his 14th goal in Thursday’s victory over Sheffield United, emphasizing the significant contribution of substitutes to Liverpool’s success.

Under Jurgen Klopp’s management, Liverpool’s substitutes have been directly involved in 24 Premier League goals this season, matching Manchester City’s record from 2011-12. 

Gakpo’s collaboration with fellow substitute Andy Robertson for the third goal against Sheffield United underscores the impact of the team’s bench strength.

Reflecting on the team’s resilience, Gakpo attributed their ability to overturn deficits and secure crucial points to the squad’s collective attitude.

Despite the awareness of their position in the title race, Gakpo emphasized the need to maintain composure and take each game as it comes.

Liverpool faces a significant challenge as they return to Old Trafford on Sunday, aiming to rectify their recent defeat to Manchester United in the FA Cup quarter-final. Captain Virgil van Dijk acknowledged the disappointment of that loss but emphasized the team’s determination to bounce back and secure three points in the upcoming fixture.
