Speaking in an interview, Musiala said that he chose the number 10 because of his favorite players, all FC Barcelona players: Lionel Messi, Neymar and Ronaldinho all wore number 10 shirts on the field.

Musiala shared: “I grew up in the era of Ronaldinho, Neymar and Messi. They all wear number 10 and for me, it has always been my dream to wear that number shirt.”

The 21-year-old Bayern Munich star also once again confirmed that his favorite players are “without a doubt Messi and Ronaldinho”, although the German also confessed to loving France, Juventus and Zinedine Zidane when childhood. However, his number 1 idol is definitely Messi.

“I admired him very much and was always fascinated by him. I watched Leo and Neymar play growing up. They are my favorite people because they help me learn a lot and are my inspiration in playing football. 

I always learn from them: watching Leo score goals or Neymar make plays with the ball. Then I would go out into the garden and try to imitate them. I have always been a fan of theirs,” Musiala shared.

However, the German player said he is not ready to compare with the Argentine superstar:  “I don’t think I can compare anything with Messi and that is almost an impossible task. I think comparing myself to Leo or any other player is useless. I pursue my career year by year and I keep playing to try to get better and win trophies for my team.”

Musiala is the youngest player to debut for Bayern Munich in 2020 and has won 4 Bundesliga championships and 1 Champions League with this club. 

However, the German star insists that he has a long way to go to achieve the legacy of winning the Ballon d’Or eight times like Lionel. He feels that his daily progress can pave the way to such a destination.
