According to the latest information, Bayern Munich is pursuing Liverpool midfielder Virgil van Dijk in the upcoming 2024 summer transfer window.
Sports Zone source said that the Bundesliga team has contacted Liverpool about the possibility of recruiting the Dutch defender in the upcoming summer transfer window. However, the Gray Tigers have not made a specific offer to the Premier League team.
In Bayern’s squad, there are currently many options for the central defender position such as Dayot Upamecano, Matthijs de Ligt, Kim Min-jae or Eric Dier. However, no one offers complete certainty. Even Upamecano or Kim Min-jae often make silly mistakes, causing the Gray Tigers to receive unnecessary goals.
Most recently, Kim Min-jae was at fault for both of Bayern’s goals against Real Madrid in the recent Champions League semi-final first leg. Meanwhile, Upamecano once made a mistake that caused Bayern to lose to Man City in the quarterfinals last season. He even received 2 red cards in just 4 days in February earlier this year.
Part of the reason why Bayern have not been successful this season is due to instability in the central defender position. Therefore, it is not strange that the Gray Tigers want to bring in a high-class midfielder like Van Dijk.
Neither Upamecano, De Ligt nor Kim Min-jae brought peace of mind to Bayern’s defense
Van Dijk’s future at Anfield has been in doubt since coach Jurgen Klopp confirmed he would leave the club. Sports Zone source also said that Al-Qadisiah – a newly promoted club of the Saudi Pro League, also wants to recruit Van Dijk before the 2024/25 season. They offered a huge price for the Dutch midfielder.
Van Dijk recently spoke out in support of Liverpool’s new coach, Arne Slot. He hopes his compatriot will achieve success at Anfield. To date, Van Dijk has won the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, Champions League, UEFA Suρer Cup and Club World Cup during his time at Anfield.
The Merseyside team has been performing poorly recently, suffering two consecutive defeats against Everton and West Ham. They will host Tottenham in an important Premier League match this Sunday.
When asked about his position in Liverpool’s new phase, Van Dijk said: “I don’t know.” However, he later explained that his statements were not understood correctly and that the press had caused fans to misunderstand his thoughts.
According to Sports Zone, although Van Dijk has not publicly announced his intention to leave Liverpool, he is more or less considering the future as he prepares to move to the other side of his career.
