Jamie Redknapp has explained what he believes Cody Gakpo should do more often for Liverpool.
On Sunday afternoon, Liverpool returned to their peak performance. Jurgen Klopp’s side dominated Tottenham for the majority of the encounter.
They exploited gaps in the Tottenham defence by finding pockets of space and controlling possession.
For a change, they discovered a way to put the ball in the back of the net and convert their opportunities into goals. That ultimately proved to be the deciding factor for the Reds.
It was too late to make a useless comeback attempt.
Jamie Redknapp outlines why Cody Gakpo should do more.
Cody Gakpo was easily one of Liverpool’s top players on Sunday afternoon. The Dutchman scored and assisted, and he was a constant threat along Liverpool’s left flank.
His magnificent cross was the game-changer, finding Mohamed Salah at the back post to open the scoring.
Gakpo now has 15 goals and six assists for the season, a respectable return. Jamie Redknapp, speaking on Sky Sports, indicated that he still believes Gakpo should be doing more.
“I think Cody has shown glimpses at Liverpool,” Redknapp stated.
“I think his finest game was against Manchester United when they won them last year, and I was thinking, ‘He looks like a true player’.
“There haven’t been enough of those moments. I guess he alternated between him and Nunez at times. He needs a consistent run of games. “I believe it will help him.”
Can Arne Slot get the best out of Cody Gakpo?
Gakpo has undoubtedly been Liverpool’s best attacker in recent times. He has four goals in the last six Premier League games and has had excellent overall performances.
Slot may be able to get even more out of Gakpo now that a fellow Dutchman is set to take over as Liverpool manager next season.
Especially if Gakpo can continue his fantastic recent form and, as Redknapp mentioned, retain consistency in his game.
