Manuel Neuer spoke out after making a mistake that cost Bayern Munich in the Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid.
Bayern seemed to have one foot in the Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund when they led Madrid with a total score of 3-2 until the 88th minute.
However, Neuer’s unbelievable mistake caused the Gray Tigers’ efforts to go down the drain. Neuer made a serious mistake when he missed Vinicius Junior’s long-range shot and created an opportunity for Joselu to easily equalize for Real.
And it was Joselu who, 3 minutes later, finished off Bayern with an easy tap-in from close range. Those were truly the most brutal minutes of Neuer’s career, one of Bayern Munich’s greatest players. The person who had an almost perfect match against Real at the age of 38.

Speaking after the match, the German goalkeeper told DAZN: “Anyone who has ever played football knows how I feel right now. The fact that we were eliminated at the end of the match when we were leading 1-0 until the 85th minute, it was extremely bitter. We’ve taken a step towards London, we’ve found ourselves in the final and now I’m speechless. It’s extremely bitter for me.”
Speaking abоut the mistake, Neuer explained: ‘I expected the ball tо hit my chest but it flew a little higher and it was difficult tо keep hоld оf it. And then Jоselu gets there faster, then it’s very difficult tо defend. Fоr a gоalkeeper whо has been arоund fоr a while, it’s sоmething I’ve been thrоugh, but that gоal was brutal.’
Before making the mistake, Neuer had some great minutes and almost discouraged Real Madrid’s strikers. Tuchel also had to exclaim that it was a mistake that Neuer would not make in 100 years. It’s a shame that Bayern couldn’t advance to the 2023/24 Champions League final. The above result has caused the Gray Tigers to have an empty-handed season since the 2011/12 season.
