Cristiano Ronaldo is being linked with a move to a club that will compete in the Champions League this summer. That is the new Bundesliga champion, Bayer Leverkusen.
When Ronaldo left MU in November 2021 and pioneered the move to the Saudi Pro League, it seemed that the striker’s career in Europe was over. However, it seems this is not necessarily true. Ronaldo is still playing as prolifically as ever in Saudi Arabia with 48 goals in 47 appearances in all competitions this season.
And the 39-year-old player’s constant shooting has attracted the attention of the team with the highest performance in Europe. According to journalist Alhazza Mutab, Ronaldo is being contacted by Bayer Leverkusen.
The new Bundesliga champions are said to want to sign the five-time Ballon d’Or winner this summer. Accordingly, Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso was once teammates with CR7 at Real Madrid, so he understands the Portuguese star’s talent very well.
According to sources from journalist Alhazza Mutab, coach Alonso has urged the Leverkusen board to sign a contract with the Al Nassr superstar in the upcoming transfer window.
Coach Alonso wants Ronaldo at Leverkusen
The Saudi Arabian journalist tweeted the following regarding Bayer Leverkusen’s interest in Ronaldo: “German club Bayer Leverkusen, on the recommendation of coach Alonso, wants to sign the outstanding player. The best in the world at Al Nasr, Cristiano Ronaldo”.
Leverkusen is aiming for a historic treble and is still maintaining its unbeaten record from the beginning of the season. They will want to have a strong transfer window to strengthen their position next season.
And Ronaldo can contribute a lot to Leverkusen if he joins. CR7 is the player with the most goals in Champions League history with 140 goals. His class and experience can help Leverkusen reach the Champions League knockout rounds for the first time since 2017.
Of course, whether Ronaldo fits into Leverkusen’s tactical scheme or not remаins to be seen. Furthermore, he will have to compete with many younger strikers at the German team. Victor Boniface, 23, is Leverkusen’s top scorer this season, with 19 goals in all competitions. Patrik Schick has also scored 12 goals so far. However, they do not have the class and experience like CR7.
