Liverpool is busy preparing for their season-ending Premier League match against Wolves.
On Sunday, the Reds will play Wolves at Anfield in what will be Jurgen Klopp’s last game as Liverpool manager. The manager of Feyenoord, Arne Slot, is anticipated to succeed Klopp, who made his resignation known back in January.
Klopp and company enter the match fresh off a Monday night 3-3 draw with Aston Villa. Liverpool has already booked their spot in the Champions League and is sure to finish third in the Premier League league.
But prior to the game against Wolves, Liverpool will have to contend with a few injuries and fitness issues. Ahead of the season finale, The ECHO examines the Reds’ current injury list and projected comeback dates.
Andy Robertson
Andy Robertson was out of Liverpool’s tie with Aston Villa because of a minor injury.
Robertson was not included in the matchday squad and was not seen during training in the days preceding the game. However, Klopp stated on Monday night that there is still hope for the left-back to play this weekend against Wolves.
“When I visited Robertson this morning, he informed me that he is prepared to begin training tomorrow. It’s the reality, Klopp informed reporters on Monday evening.
Wolves (H) is anticipated to return on May 19.
Diogo Jota
Diogo Jota has been out due to an injury he received on April 21 against Fulham.
Since then, he has been recuperating and has not yet been added back to the matchday roster. Jota’s availability for Sunday’s match against Wolves is still unknown.
Anticipated date of return: Unknown
Thiago Alcantara
For Liverpool this season, Thiago Alcantara has only played five minutes of football.
It’s improbable that the midfield player will make it back in time to play against Wolves on Sunday given he has been suffering from a hamstring injury since February. Since Thiago’s contract is scheduled to expire at the end of the current campaign, it’s possible that he has already played his last game for the team.
Anticipated date of return: Unknown
Joel Matip
Joel Matip sustained an ACL injury against Fulham in December, and he has been rehabilitating.
Not long after the injury, the center-back was declared out for the rest of the season. At the end of the season, Matip’s contract is scheduled to expire; it is unclear if he will be extended.
Anticipated date of return: Unknown
Bobby Clark
Bobby Clark declared earlier this month that an injury would keep him out of the game for the rest of the season.
Due to a back ailment, the 19-year-old will not play against Wolves in the season finale. Clark has had a great season as a member of the Liverpool first team, shining in the Carabao Cup final victory at Wembley Stadium.
Anticipated return date: next season
Ben Doak
Ben Doak has been recuperating from a December knee injury he received while playing for Liverpool’s Under-21 squad.
The attacker is not anticipated to play in the season finale against Wolves as he has not yet returned to squad training.
Anticipated return date: next season
