WHAT HAPPENED?

Barcelona has tried to recruit Bernardo Silva of Manchester City in recent transfer windows. They are expected to try to recruit the Portuguese midfielder again this summer. However, according to Sport , Barcelona may give up hope of having Silva and consider bringing Xavi Simons back. Simons spent 9 years training at La Masia and had an excellent 2023-24 season when he was loaned to RB Leipzig.

Simons has been one of the standout players in the Bundesliga this season, with his performances clearly piqued Barca’s interest. He scored seven goals and contributed 11 times in the German championship, and also had four goal contributions in eight Champions League matches. Combine those numbers with the fact that Simons is only 21 years old, and it’s easy to see why Barca put him first over Silva, who is 29 years old.

With Kylian Mbappe leaving after this season, PSG does not want to let Simons leave permanently. Therefore, they prioritize loaning this midfielder for another season. Barca is said to target this Dutch midfielder in the left wing position and number 10 position.
