In appreciation of his long-standing support of Liverpool FC’s community service and efforts with its disabled supporters, Jürgen Klopp has been given two awards.
At the AXA Training Centre, Klopp received the special awards from the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) and the Liverpool Disabled Supporters Association (LDSA).
As an official representative of the LFC Foundation, Klopp has supported and advocated for numerous community initiatives while he has been a member of the team. He is certain that football should be accessible to all.
The LFC Foundation’s chief executive, Matt Parish, presented the awards alongside PFA CEO Maheta Molango and executive in charge of community interaction, Stephen Raynor. Virgil van Dijk and Missy Bo Kearns were also honored as PFA Community Champions for the 2023–2024 season.
The PFA Community Champions award seeks to recognize football players who have made volunteer work for charitable causes and within their communities a major part of their professional careers.
Kearns was named an official LFC Foundation ambassador for her commitment to helping the organization’s work in local communities, while Van Dijk has sponsored the Owen McVeigh Foundation and visited Alder Hey Children’s Hospital this season.
“Again, Liverpool players have set a fantastic example with their involvement in their local community this season,” Molango stated. It’s a true example of the beneficial influence athletes can have off the field, which is extremely meaningful to a great deal of people.
Since so many of our members value giving back to their communities through their jobs, as their union, we always want to honor those who contribute in this way.
“We would like to express our gratitude to Jürgen for his exceptional support of the community and congratulate Virgil and Missy Bo on being this season’s winners of the 2023–24 PFA Community Champion award.
“Managers are essential to the club because they set the schedule and ensure that players understand the importance of their job for the community. Jürgen has spent his whole career at Liverpool advocating for the value of community involvement.
Conor Bradley, the LDSA’s young player of the year, Darwin Nunez, the men’s player of the year, Niamh Fahey, the women’s player of the year, and Klopp, the special honor recipient, were among the fortunate LDSA members who joined Ted Morris, the LDSA chair, for their 2023–24 presentations.
Morris remarked, “I’d like to congratulate Jürgen, Niamh, Darwin, and Conor on their awards on behalf of all our members.
“I know it means a great deal to a lot of people, so I’d also like to extend heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Jürgen for the incredible support he has shown to the LDSA and all our members during his time at LFC.”
