Joel Matip will depart Liverpool at the end of the current campaign, the Merseyside giants have revealed. Matip has been with the team for eight years.
After a great stint at Liverpool, the 32-year-old, who joined the Reds from German team Schalke in 2016, is ready to start a new chapter in his career.
The news was announced by the club on Friday morning, and Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp paid homage to the central defender in a statement.
During his time as a football manager, Klopp stated, “I don’t think I have ever seen too many players who are more loved than Joel Matip.” It’s doubtful if anything negative could be said about him.
“We have been fortunate to have him with us for as long as we have—a wonderful professional, a wonderful football player, and a wonderful human being. Now, all we can do is wish him well as he heads off in a new direction.”
Joel is a player whose abilities are evident to all, and our team has profited from them ever since he joined. He hasn’t made too many news stories over the years, but he has just ever been a very well-known member of our group.
Joel is one of the people who, in spite of the fact that we could not have given him a higher rating, wouldn’t mind if he was underappreciated, as I have stated previously. One of the key reasons his tenure here has been so successful is that he has not just set the bar for himself, but also for others.
