Even though Jurgen Klopp’s last game as Liverpool’s manager had just ended a few minutes earlier, the German manager was already talking about maybe returning to Anfield. Reds supporters may anticipate seeing Klopp again soon. The 56-year-old announced his leave in January, with an emotional farewell on the last day of the Premier League season.
The adopted son of Merseyside intends to spend some time with his family and watch Euro 2024 as a spectator in his native country before accepting a coaching role elsewhere.
But even if Klopp is adamant about taking a break from management after almost ten years in charge at Liverpool, there’s a good chance he will miss the excitement and energy at games and on the practice field when the 2024–25 season gets underway.
And it won’t be too long before he returns to Anfield, as Klopp disclosed that he will visit Merseyside in the fall to attend a game, with Arne Slot leading the way.
“It was a truly amazing and delightful experience,” Klopp said in reflection. “It was fantastic. My relatives were on the field. I’m okay with the fact that I’ll occasionally return to lend my support. Perhaps following the second international break, rather than for the season’s opening match!
The FIFA men’s international match schedule for football states that international breaks for Nations League games will take place on September 1–9, October 6–14, and November 10–18, 2024.
In response to a question about what his first few days will include following his official departure from Liverpool, Klopp joked that he will be getting ready to begin his travels by saying, “Packing probably!”
After leading his team to a 2-0 victory over Wolves on Sunday, Klopp concluded his tenure in style. A packed house lingered at the stadium long after the final whistle, paying tribute to the man who had led their team to their first Premier League title and Champions League victory.
“Work completed,” was how Klopp phrased some of his last remarks as Liverpool’s manager. “I adore the club and everyone in it, but I have to part ways now. It feels good to know that it’s not burning behind me. I love that I support Liverpool, therefore I know I’ll be returning.
“Today was fantastic. I would want to express my gratitude to all of you. I adored the way the players and I bid the crew farewell. As the manager of Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp is so much more than just himself; without him, I could not have accomplished anything.”
