Few people have represented FC Bayern’s incredible success in recent years like Manuel Neuer. Since arriving in Munich from Schalke in 2011, the goalkeeper has defined an era at the club.

Manuel joined Bayern with a clear goal
When Neuer joined Bayern in July 2011, the then 25-year-old goalkeeper had clear goals: “Bayern Munich is the best club in Germany. I know what I want, which is success with the club and for myself,” Manuel shared at the announcement of the transfer. And that’s not just talk…

But Neuer’s first season in Munich did not go as planned. Three runner-up finishes in the Bundesliga, DFB Cup and UEFA Champions League meant that Neuer’s first year ended in disappointment. However, that “second-place hat trιck” was the milestone that started a new and most successful era in the club’s history in which Neuer was the central figure.
Unprecedented achievements
Neuer has so far amassed 29 trophies in his 12 years at Bayern, including two Bundesliga, DFB Cup and Champions League trebles in 2013 and 2020.
He has also received many individual awards, such as Germany’s Best Footballer of the Year in 2011 and 2014, Best FIFA Me𝚗’s Goalkeeper in 2020 and IFFHS World’s Best Goalkeeper of the Decade: 2011–2020 …

Since joining Bayern, Manuel Neuer has continuously held records, including the most clean sheets in Europe’s top 5 leagues.
To date, Neuer has appeared 494 times in Bayern’s matches, keeping clean sheets in almost half of them (234). Since he arrived at the Allianz Arena in 2011, no goalkeeper in Europe’s top five leagues has made so many appearances. His 375 wins with Bayern were also the best of any goalkeeper during that period.
Definition of modern goalkeeper
Neuer is the embodiment of modern goalkeeper play. Rather, he redefined the philosophy of this style of play and took it to a new level.Neuer is typically a sweeper far from goal, blocking the ball with his feet, chest or head. His ability to hold the ball also makes him an important factor in Bayern’s build-up play.
Neuer can be said to be the most comprehensive and classy foot-playing goalkeeper in the world ever and it will probably be a long time before anyone else reaches this level. There was a time when people joked that if Bayern and Germany lacked such a striker, they should move Neuer to that position.

This is also the reason why Neuer is often assigned a penalty kιck every time Bayern and Germany have to enter a penalty shootout.
Never give up attitude
Neuer has been Bayern’s captain since 2017 and shows a never-give-up attitude. “To continuously improve, you also need to discuss issues in detail, even after winning,” he once said in an interview with the members’ magazine ’51’.
However, that does not meаn that Neuer did not encounter setbacks and some serious injuries.

He broke his metatarsal twice in 2017 and missed almost the entire 2017/18 season but fought back to his old self.
Recently, a skiing аccident caused Neuer to break his leg in December 2022 and the goalkeeper had to miss about 10 months. Those who have seen the footage of this аccident and the recovery process are аmаzed and in awe.
Neuer’s strong desire helped the 37-year-old goalkeeper return to play in Bayern’s goal at the end of October 2023 with the same performance as before he stopped.
That means fans have even more reason to be excited about his contract extension. Neuer himself is the same, he is not “finished at Bayern” yet!

“I believe that we can achieve big goals in the coming years together with our fans- and that obviously includes the Champions League final in Munich in 2025,” affirmed Manuel Neuer
