39-year-old veteran striker Ronaldo asserted that Portugal “deserves” to win another major international title to complement their special victory at Euro 2016.
Ronaldo’s great achievements
Portugal will play their opening match of Euro 2024 against the Czechs in Leipzig. Ronaldo will be named and appear at the 6th Euro, bringing many records .
Coach Roberto Martinez’s team easily qualified for Euro 2024 with a winning record in Group F, the group gathering Türkiye and Georgia.
“I believe that this generation deserves to win in a tournament of this magnitude,” Ronaldo emphasized to the media when arriving in Germany, aiming for the Henri Delaunay trophy.
The former Real Madrid “аssаssin” won Euro 2016 with Portugal, but had to limp due to ιnjury in the final against France, which ended with glory with Eder’s goal in extra time.
Ronaldo is currently playing hard for Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia. Last week, Ronaldo scored two goals against Ireland in a friendly match to increase his international scoring record to 130 goals. 14 of these came from the European Championship, helping CR7 become the all-time top scorer at the Euro, surpassing French legend Michel Platini (9 goals).
Ronaldo and the 6th Euro of his career.
Euro 2004, Ronaldo appeared on home field for the first time. He scored against defending champion Greece in his Euro debut and since then, CR7 has continuously “fired” in every tournament.
Along with Ronaldo’s great achievements, this striker has made 25 appearances at the Euro finals. He missed only one match in the tournament in the five times he was called up to join the Portuguese team.
If Ronaldo scores in Germany, he will become the oldest player to score at Euro. This record currently belongs to Ivica Vastic of Austria, set in 2008, scored at the age of 38 years and 257 days.
“I like football , records are a consequence, so for me it’s not a goal, because I think they come naturally. I would be happy to win a second European Championship and it’s about enjoying it in the best way, playing well, making sure the team can win, trying to give my best and enjoying it.” Ronaldo shared.
Ronaldo, coach Martinez’s talisman
Many people believe that Ronaldo’s international career is very close to the end, when he was eliminated by Portugal in the last two matches of the 2022 World Cup after not scoring in the opening match of the group stage.
However, coach Martinez cannot ignore the “talisman” who won the Golden Ball five times. That helped Ronaldo start in Euro 2024 qualifying matches and score 10 goals.
Despite holding a record of 207 caps for the national team and a long international career, Ronaldo is still quite nervous before battles: “There is always a tingling feeling in the stomach, especially the day before the match.” figҺt. But it’s normal, it’s inevitable and I’m happy to feel it.
If I don’t vibe with it, it’s better to give up and stop. I still feel very motivated, this is a different tournament and we are all well prepared.”
Ronaldo scored two goals in a friendly match against Ireland.
Ronaldo’s ambition is also a motivation for his teammates
“With Cristiano, he will always think big and we will keep up with him. He is the one who has won the most among us… If we all realize that we have to go step by step, we can go far and I believe in that,” Manchester defender United – Diogo Dalot spoke at the pre-match press conference.
If Portugal is among the candidates for the championship, the Czechs have not been able to get past the quarter-finals for the past 20 years.
Similar to Portugal, the Czechs have lifted the championship trophy once – in 1976 as Czechoslovakia.
The three-man defense, with two full-backs led by Tomas Holes of Slavia Praha Club, must find a way to stop Ronaldo if the Czechs want to get off to a smooth start.
However, very few competitors have been able to do that since Portugal’s “talisman” appeared two decades ago.
Along with Ronaldo’s great achievements , there is another challenge waiting for CR7 to set up at Euro 2024: scoring a hat-trιck. The last hat-trιck was scored by Spain’s David Villa at the Euro in 2008.
