The Hungarian FA has stated that devastated sensation Barnabas Varga is stable following his horrific crash against Scotland.
The Ferencvaros forward was involved in a horrific event during Sunday evening’s crucial match in Stuttgart. He collided violently with Scotland’s goalie, Angus Gunn.
Varga was treated extensively on the pitch behind screens before being stretchered onto the pitch. The Hungarian FA has now provided a positive update on the 29-year-old’s condition.
A statement issued shortly after the game stated, “Barnabás Varga’s condition is stable! The Ferencvaros player is currently at one of Stuttgart’s hospitals! We will notify you quickly if there is any update on its progress!”
The incident had left Varga’s Hungary teammate and Liverpool star, Dominik Szoboszlai, in tears. The accident in Stuttgart resulted in ten minutes of injury time on Sunday.
Scotland goalkeeper Gunn also commented on the incident, stating that he, too, required medical care. He told the BBC: “It was a bit of a blur.” It was a bit unpleasant, but hopefully the man is fine. “I don’t remember much about that one.”
The BBC was also forced to issue an apology soon after the incident. A replay of the incident was presented on live television, but presenter Gabby Logan emphasized that it was not the channel’s decision.
According to her: “There are protocols after the Christian Eriksen incident, we were very surprised that UEFA chose to show that replay which is why we cut away as soon as we could.”
Hungary eventually made the most of the lengthy stoppage time, with Kevin Csoboth scoring a late winner for his country. The Hungarians celebrated with Varga’s shirt both after the game and after the final whistle.
They hope to continue later this week. Hungary finished third in the group with three points and will be trying to advance as one of the top-performing third-placed teams.
Hungary will not know their destiny until the end of the group rounds on Wednesday. Germany won Group A, while Switzerland came in second. To secure first place, the hosts tied Switzerland late on with Borussia Dortmund forward Niclas Fullkrug.
