Although the match between Portugal and Slovenia was extremely tense, striker Cristiano Ronaldo still left interesting and entertaining moments on the field.
Early this morning, Portugal officially won a ticket to the quarter-finals of EURO 2024 after struggling to defeat Slovenia in a nerve-wracking penalty shootout.
During the 90 minutes of official play and 30 minutes of extra time, Portugal could not make goalkeeper Jan Oblak’s net shake even though they had 20 shots, twice as many as their opponent.
Among them, striker Ronaldo was the one who “diligently” threatened Oblak’s goal with a total of 7 times. In the 105th minute, the 39-year-old player even missed the opportunity to end the match when Portugal was awarded a penalty after striker Diogo Jota was fouled by the opponent in the penalty area.
The former Manchester United star later made amends by successfully converting his penalty kιck, helping his team overcome Slovenia. 
This was an emotional match for Ronaldo personally. Not only did he make his home fans cry after missing a penalty kιck in the 105th minute, but the striker born in 1985 also left behind a few humorous moments during the match.
One of them came in the 37th minute when Portugal was awarded a free kιck in the left corner of Slovenia’s goal. In order to have the perfect shooting angle, Ronaldo deliberately “cheated” by placing the ball slightly higher than the free kιck spot determined by the referee.
However, this action did not fool referee Daniele Osarto, who then adjusted the ball back to its original position and reminded Ronaldo.
The star born in 1985, instead of complaining like before, suԀԀenly smiled brightly and pointed at the camera lens as if to joke with the referee.
Teammate Bernardo Silva standing nearby also couldn’t hide his smile when he saw Ronaldo’s reaction to the referee.
Ronaldo has now played all four matches for Portugal at EURO 2024, but the 39-year-old has yet to score a goal.
Entering the quarter-finals, the opponent for Roberto Martinez’s army will be France, the team that defeated Belgium 1-0 earlier.
