Former England captain Wayne Rooney has compared Spain’s Nico Williams to a young Cristiano Ronaldo, highlighting the threаt the player could pose in the Euro 2024 final against the Three Lions.

Ahead of the Euro 2024 final between England and Spain in Berlin, former England captain Wayne Rooney has issued an important warning to his team. Rooney specifically highlighted the threаt posed by young Spanish striker Nico Williams, who he compared to Cristiano Ronaldo during his time at Manchester United.

In an interview with The Times, Rooney shared: “Williams is special. He reminds me of Cristiano Ronaldo when he was young. He’s a big lad, he’ll win the ball and sometimes try too hard but usually makes the right decisions.

He’s an incredible threаt in one-on-ones and scoring goals. England need to be really careful with this guy.”

Rooney’s comments are not without merit. Nico Williams has had an impressive tournament, scoring his first goal in a 4-1 win over Georgia in the round of 16. He has three goals in 19 appearances for his country in total. Notably, Williams has been trusted by coach Luis de la Fuente to start five of Spain’s six games at Euro 2024.

Not only Williams, Spain also has another young talent, Lamine Yamal. Both have shown impressive dribbling skills in this tournament. According to statistics, Williams and Yamal have 29 and 30 successful dribbles respectively, behind only Jeremy Doku (34), Jamal Musiala, Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele (32). Notably, this pair has contributed a total of two goals and four assists for the Spanish team.
