Striker Thomas Muller has officially announced his decision to retire from the German national team after 14 years of dedication.
“When I first wore the German national team jersey 14 years ago, I could not have dreamed of what I would experience. Historic victories, bitter defeats, sometimes to the point of exhaustion, and then all standing up to compete in major tournaments. With great teammates, we have experienced countless unforgettable memories together. After 131 matches and 45 goals, today I sаy goodbye to the German national team,” Thomas Muller officially announced his decision to retire from the German national team.

Muller shared in his announcement video: “I have had the honor of participating in 4 World Cups, 4 EUROs and lifting the World Cup trophy. Feeling the love of the fans, wearing the national team jersey always makes me proud. We have celebrated together, then shed tears together. I want to thank everyone, from the fans to every member of the team for their support and help over the years. Now, I am no longer a player but will always be a fan following and supporting the German team. See you again.”
Muller’s retirement from the German national team after EURO 2024 was predicted in advance because in fact, he has not contributed much in recent years. Bayern Munich’s vice-captain’s participation in EURO 2024 was also considered to help coach Julian Nagelsmann stabilize the dressing room and encourage team spirit more than professional significance.
After 14 years of dedication, Muller has 131 appearances and scored 45 goals for the German team.
After playing for the youth teams, Muller was given the opportunity to debut for the German national team by coach Joachim Low in March 2010. The striker immediately made his mark in the major tournaments he attended, with 5 goals at the 2010 World Cup. Since then, for more than a decade, despite having periods of poor form, “Raumdeuter” has always been a mainstay of Ԁie Mannschaft.
After 14 years of service, Muller has made 131 appearances, ranking 3rd in the list of players with the most appearances for the German national team, and also ranked 6th on the “golden table” of goalscorers with 45 goals. The German legend was a key member of Ԁie Mannschaft’s 2014 World Cup winning squad. According to German press, the 2024/25 season is likely to be the last season of his career before the 1989-born star retires in the summer of 2025.
