After Team USA won the Olympic basketball gold medal game against France, the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NBA draft burst into tears. Durant consoled him after they had embraced.

Wembanyama was asked about the chat during an appearance on a French television show on Wednesday. The youthful player said he exchanged encouraging words with KD and informed him he’d want to use some moves from his repertoire.

“Clearly, this is my personal childhood favorite. He became my favorite player. It was a classic one-on-one moment for encouragement and congratulations for each other, and I made it clear to him that I wanted to learn from him and perhaps only steal one or two of his secret techniques.”

Victor Wembanyama is one of the most highly anticipated NBA prospects in history. His debut season in the league went well, as he nearly had a quadruple-double and dominated several games.

He won the Rookie of the Year award over OKC Thunder player Chet Holmgren. His second season with the Spurs is projected to be even better, as the team has signed Chris Paul and other veterans to support Wembanyama.

Victor Wembanyama spoke about his first Olympic experience.

Victor Wembanyama and France stunned many people when they won the gold medal game at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Despite upsetting favourites Canada and Germany, the French were unable to topple Team USA in the final.

After the contest, Wembanyama issued a warning to his future opponents.

“I’m learning, and I’m worried for the opponents in a couple of years. NBA, FIBA, everywhere,” Victor Wembanyama said, as quoted by the BasketNews.

Moreover, he praised his teammates and fans for walking the path with him:

“We’re going to enjoy the moment. It’s great. I’m proud of my teammates. I’m proud of having done what we’ve done here in France in front of our fans. I’m gonna let it all soak in and realize what’s going on.”

Victor Wembanyama is only 20 years old, yet he already has shown flashes of brilliance.
