Serbian basketball player Nikola Jokić returned to the United States this week and began preparations with Denver for the new NBA season, and before the trip he visited a “cult place” in Sombor. Two female students of the “Dr. Ružica Rip” High School of Medicine noticed Nikola Jokić in a bakery in Sombor, when they themselves came to refresh themselves during a long vacation, but they were still too shy to ask him for a photo.
“We were delighted when we saw him. Of course we knew him, everyone knows him, and you can’t help but notice him, because nobody in Sombor is as tall as him. He bought burek, pretzels and yogurt,” said one of the student for “Večernje Novosti” who was stunned when she saw the Serbian basketball icon in the bakery.
It is interesting that this was on the eve of his trip to Denver, where Jokić cannot enjoy the charms of burek, so it is no surprise that he stopped by a Serbian bakery to enjoy the food he has loved the most since childhood. It was precisely because of burek that former coach Dejan Milojević once reprimanded him, who for a time forbade him to eat such “heavy food”, after which he began to offer much more on the floor.
“We hired a nutritionist and our fitness trainer Marko Ćosić, who is truly a top trainer, created a fantastic work program. Secondly, he determined the diet regime, we killed ourselves working on it, but we saw that it was not going in the expected direction. And then we realize that he eats half a kilo of burek for breakfast and drinks a bottle of soda for the whole day,” said Dejan Milojević.
Nikola Jokić is normally one of the heaviest players in the NBA, but at the same time he became one of the fittest in the world because he pays special attention to his figure: “I was fat until a few years ago. I liked to eat everything and I didn’t refuse anything. I ate everything, cakes, soup with a little more fat. Before every game, I eat something that I shouldn’t. A piece of pizza, popcorn… It’s just against the spell!” said Nikola Jokić.
Let’s remind, in the first conversation with the media before the start of the new NBA season, Nikola Jokić showed a new image, and said that the previous summer was the best in his life, as he is especially proud of the bronze medal he won with the Serbian national team in Paris.
“Playing at the Olympic Games didn’t take anything away from me, I enjoyed playing for Serbia, representing Serbia, my hometown, my family, playing with my friends. Anyone who has the opportunity to do it, should do it, it’s a different competition, whatever you want to call it. Every game is important, every loss can send you home. It’s interesting for the players and I advise them to do it,” was his message to the Americans.
