Nikola Jokic scored seven of his 40 points in overtime, helping the Denver Nuggets overcome a 15-point hole to defeat the Toronto Raptors 127-125 on Monday night.
With less than a second remaining in regulation, Canadian standout Jamal Murray forced overtime for the Nuggets.
Jokic also collected ten rebounds. Denver’s Aaron Gordon scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
Toronto’s RJ Barrett missed a three in the waning seconds of overtime, and Ochai Agbaji and Jakob Poeltl were unable to tip it in.
Murray and Christian Braun each had 17 points as the Nuggets won for the first time in three games this season.
Scottie Barnes, a Raptors forward, had 21 points, 12 rebounds, and nine assists before being knocked out in the final minute of the fourth quarter due to an elbow to the right eye.
Barrett scored 20 points in his season debut, having missed the first three games due to a sprained right shoulder. Poeltl scored 16 points and grabbed a career-high 19 rebounds.
Nuggets: Gordon had eight assists while Murray had seven.
Barnes objected to Russell Westbrook’s harsh foul as he drove to the hoop early in the fourth. Barnes and Westbrook exchanged words before Barnes and Gordon were separated for shoving each other. Westbrook was called for a flagrant foul, while Barnes and Gordon received offsetting technicals.
