The term “generational” is often used in professional sports to describe players who achieve extraordinary individual success. In the NFL, Patrick Mahomes exemplifies a generational talent as he eyes his third consecutive Super Bowl win this coming February. In the NBA, Nikola Jokic is certainly one of those generational players.
Despite being famously drafted during a Taco Bell commercial in the 2014 NBA Draft, Jokic has far exceeded any expectations. Now a three-time league MVP and NBA Champion, he reached a significant milestone in a recent game.
In his 690th regular-season game against the Los Angeles Clippers, Jokic tied NBA Hall of Famer Magic Johnson for third all-time on the career triple-doubles list with 138. With a potential 139th triple-double, Jokic trails only Oscar Robertson (181) and his teammate Russell Westbrook (200). He is one of just six players in NBA history to achieve at least 100 career triple-doubles.
It’s no surprise that Jokic continues to rise through the ranks, as the Serbian big man has been playing the best basketball of his career lately. Entering the game against the Clippers, Jokic averaged a triple-double over the season through 14 games, ranking in the top five for scoring, rebounding, and assists.
With Denver missing key forward Aaron Gordon due to injury and their standing in the Western Conference, the Nuggets will rely heavily on their star big man to maintain their playoff contention in the West.
